ABOUT
About KMR Boats Amsterdam
Clean engineering, honest craftsmanship, and electric boats built properly.
Overview
Electric marine conversions with a focus on method, not shortcuts.
KMR Boats Amsterdam delivers electric refits and propulsion conversions for vessels where reliability, access, and clean engineering matter. The work includes electric lifeboat rebuilds, custom propulsion systems, and modular console kits developed to simplify installation and long-term servicing.
Every project follows a structured, hands-on approach. Systems are designed as a whole—mechanical, electrical, and layout working together—so the finished boat is straightforward to operate, inspect, and maintain.
Background
A practical start in 2020, built on core skills.
KMR Boats was founded in 2020 after the pandemic made offshore work impossible. The business began with straightforward boat repairs and refits, returning to core polyester and GRP boatbuilding skills. Alongside this, years of electrical experience gained offshore and in mining fed naturally into electric conversions, where clean engineering, reliability, and serviceable systems became the main focus.
Experience
Boatbuilding roots with industrial systems discipline.
After leaving school, Alistair trained formally in fiberglass boatbuilding through an apprenticeship at Rayglass Boats in New Zealand, learning hands-on in a production environment. Time spent offshore and in industrial settings later reinforced electrical systems knowledge, disciplined workflows, and safety-critical thinking.
- 🛠️ Formal training in fiberglass and GRP construction.
- ⚓ Grounded in real build and refit work, not classroom mockups.
- 🧰 Practical joinery, structural repair, and fit-out experience.
- ⚡ Industrial electrical exposure and systems discipline.
- 🧭 Safety-critical work habits from offshore environments.
- 🔩 Industrial thinking applied to electric marine systems.
Fit
A clear fit, or not.
KMR is a good fit if:
- You’re looking for a properly engineered electric boat or conversion.
- You care about engineering, access, and future servicing.
- You’re comfortable with a considered approach rather than quick fixes.
KMR may not be the right fit if:
- You are chasing the cheapest possible solution.
- You’re not concerned with how systems are engineered, laid out, or supported long-term.
- You expect shortcuts, rushed timelines, or temporary fixes.
